Services - Special Needs Consulting
Specific Packages of Services
1) Personal Consultation
A consultation with Marc Hoffman consists of an assessment through a one-on-one meeting with the student, followed by a separate meeting with parents. Upon reviewing all of the information, Marc will go over the information with the student and his or her family to present a course of action.
The consultation will include a full review of the student’s educational and social background as well as his educational testing. An understanding of the parental perspective will also be examined. Upon completion of the consultation, a review of the student’s needs and objectives will be discussed. The consultation will also include a plan for the following:
- Study Skills
- Time Management
- Goal Setting
The family will receive a summary explaining how Hoffman Educational Group will set priorities, establish a plan of action, and work with a child’s school on the child’s behalf. Marc will provide families with appropriate referrals for evaluations, tutors, and academic coaches.
2) Secondary School or College Follow-Up
Going away to boarding school or college and adapting to a new learning environment can be overwhelming for any student, but more so for a student with a learning difference. We have found that the resources provided at a new school are often not adequate to help a person navigate the system. Many students require someone to work with them on a regular basis to develop self-advocating strategies. To facilitate this development, the Hoffman Educational Group will conduct regular phone call follow-ups and, if possible, visit the student at his school.
The goal of the follow-ups is to help the student adjust to a new environment by taking advantage of the resources that are provided at the school. Part of this service requires a Hoffman Educational Group representative to stay in contact with parents and provide them with updates about their child’s progress.
3) Quarterly Support Program
This package includes everything in Package 1, along with meetings between Marc and the student. Meetings take place roughly every three weeks throughout a given quarter, for a one-hour session. These meetings consist of a progress report along with input from students, parents, tutors and/or teachers. Also, the Hoffman Educational Group will make periodic phone calls to speak with students about their progress. In addition, Marc is accessible to parents for advice and/or counseling on an as-needed basis.
4) Quarterly Support Program with At-Home Academic Coaching
Coaching is a collaborative, problem-solving process that helps students to establish life changes. It is a creative method for helping them focus their talents, resources, and strengths so that the students are successful in achieving their academic and personal goals.
Many students seek to achieve the following:
- Work under deadlines more effectively
- Write more effectively
- Manage stress better
- Clarify and achieve long-term goals
This package includes everything mentioned in Package 3 along with home academic coaching. Marc oversees the coaching process and receives updates on a student’s progress.
5) One-on-one Academic Coaching and Subject Tutoring
Available at a per-hour rate.
