Find out what the student is looking to achieve. What are the goals…?
Determine the client’s interests.
Explain how you envision helping the client. State your role!
Discuss with the client what is his/her concept of required assistance.
Get a sense of the student’s learning style. Forms to help find a student’s learning style can be provided.
Get a sense of the client’s strengths and weaknesses. Help him/her bridge the gap.
Discuss with the client before each session what are goals for that session. Clearly define and reduce them to written form. If appropriate share the goals with parents after each session.
During the beginning of the session ask to see the student’s planner, notes, books, etc.
Establish mutually agreed upon rules between you and the client during the first session.
Find a distraction free working space.
Keep track of your time.
Speaking with Parents and Schools:
Establish an open line of communication with parents. Ask them questions and expect them to want progress reports.
Ask parents for relevant testing, IEPs and comments from teachers.
Be open to briefly communicating with the client’s teachers.
Please do not discuss payment with parents. Hoffman Educational Group will deal with any financial or contractual arrangements. Advise parents to talk with Marc Hoffman.
Monthly progress reports need to be submitted via email. They need not be lengthy and should not be time consuming.
Informing Director:
Please notify Marc immediately if there are problems. He will work on your behalf to resolve any disputes.
Let Marc know if the frequency of meetings changes.
Monthly emails will be forwarded to you requesting your hours and your anticipated hours for the upcoming month.
